Fundraiser Hockey Tournament Saturday, October 26th for Michael Lemieux

Hockey is a brother / sisterhood...

A few Sundays ago, Mike Lemieux, a hockey player friend to many of us, was riding his bike up on the Eastern Promenade near East End Beach in Portland, Maine and had an accident that has left him paralyzed from the neck down.

The reality of current medical costs and future needs are obvious. In an attempt to help, I have organized a Hockey Tournament/Fundraiser on Saturday, October 26th in which I hope many of you can help out by:
a) making a donation to The Michael Lemieux Fund,
b) paying $50 to participate in our hockey tournament,
c) donating an item to the auction,
d) attending or helping to get buyers to the auction.

Checks should be made payable to: "The Michael Lemieux Fund" and sent to John Lightbody, Esq, Murray Plumb & Murray, 75 Pearl Street, Portland, ME 04101.

I visited Michael this week, and amazingly his spirits are very upbeat, he is courageous and looking forward to getting to the Spaulding Rehab Center in Boston to begin his therapy. Michael is a single, 42 year old father with two children. Jean-Claude is a junior hockey player at Cheverus High School in Portland who is playing Casco Bay Midgets, and Victoria will be a freshman at Cheverus and will play in Casco Bay this year.

Casco Bay Youth Hockey Association and our own Ted Herman Scholarship Fund have both already stepped up and provided for all future hockey-related costs for Michael's children. Hearing this brought tears to Michael's eyes.

Please do what you can.  This will be a one-time appeal to this group.  I'm simply reaching out to everyone I know.  You are welcomed to forward this email to anyone you know who is in a position to help. If you need to know more or want to donate an item to the auction, please contact me via email by clicking here.

Our hockey community has always been quick to come to the aid of one of our own. It's time to do so again.
