Fundraiser Hockey Tournamentfor Michael Lemieux
A few Sundays ago, Mike Lemieux, a hockey player friend to many of us, was riding his bike up on the Eastern Promenade near East End Beach in Portland, Maine and had an accident that has left him paralyzed from the neck down.
The reality of current medical costs and future needs are obvious. In an attempt to help, I have organized a Hockey Tournament/Fundraiser on
I visited Michael this week, and amazingly his spirits are very upbeat, he is courageous and looking forward to getting to the Spaulding Rehab Center in Boston to begin his therapy. Michael is a single, 42 year old father with two children. Jean-Claude is a junior hockey player at Cheverus High School in Portland who is playing Casco Bay Midgets, and Victoria will be a freshman at Cheverus and will play in Casco Bay this year.
Casco Bay Youth Hockey Association and our own Ted Herman Scholarship Fund have both already stepped up and provided for all future hockey-related costs for Michael's children. Hearing this brought tears to Michael's eyes.
Please do what you can. This will be a one-time appeal to this group. I'm simply reaching out to everyone I know. You are welcomed to forward this email to anyone you know who is in a position to help.
